Are Desktop PCs and Laptops Becoming Obsolete?

PC’s death is immaterial until smartphones and tablets’ innovation with more excellent performance and storage unified with portability.

The use of desktops and laptops is reduced, but it doesn’t mean that they are becoming obsolete. Even though people depend on lighter and portable gadgets to ease their work, they rely on desktops for managing heaps of records and other purposes. Most of us think that smartphones are just the mini version of desktops. But there are differences in certain aspects.

Are Tablets a Mini Desktop?

On comparing desktops with tablets and smartphones, the first thought is of the memory. When tablets and phones come up with an 8GB expandable memory, desktops develop 1TB of storage space. The phone’s space runs out with the installation of applications and other files while PCs support it. Another drawback is that PCs offer detail to the images with higher resolution.

On the other hand, wireless devices do not offer as much security as the desktop does. The hotspot makes the individual independent and not dependent on LAN, but at the same time, the privacy and security are lessened. Most of the applications get accessed to the media files of the user. As the size decreases and the wires disappear, our privacy is also minimized.

There are specific tasks that can be accomplished only using desktops like software development, music production, 3D modeling VFX, and record management. An expert in any field will turn on the desktop and not any other gadgets to work on it. The tasks that require higher performance cannot be performed within a smartphone. Desktops can also support a wide range of operating systems.

Desktop V/s Laptop

There are drawbacks to laptops too when compared to a desktop. They aren’t just a portable version of desktops. Their performance is deficient when compared to desktop. So you may purchase a laptop only if you prefer portability over performance. Also, the graphics processors in desktops are better for image editors.

You can prefer desktops if you are also looking to save some money, too, as you can purchase them on a reliable budget. Laptops, when they tend to slow down, need to be replaced. But desktops come with various parts, which make it easier to repair or replace the damaged part alone. These devices, when reduced in size, are restricting their performance too.

Will Desktops Survive?

Technology changes every day. New hardware is produced every year. It does not mean that desktops and laptops are becoming obsolete. Desktops cannot vanish until new devices arrive that can withstand a desktop’s capacity and a computer’s portability. We agree that there is a drop in desktops’ sales, but it is not a revelation that they will be outdated.

The sole users who know the capability of a desktop can never abandon it. Even after decades of research and analysis, no device is invented until now to compete with desktops. It is astounding that this wireless era is still wired to desktops. The offices always depend upon desktops to store their bundles of documents and the transferring process.

Lastly, on comparing PCs to these wireless devices, the only drawback we tend to notice is their occupying of space and their resistance to portability. But these seem to disappear on their race performance. There has been no invention of gadgets that can meet up with the desktops and therefore is not the perfect moment to put a period to the question that if laptops and PCs are becoming obsolete. They will continue to work unless a competent obstructs its path.
